Comment on Book

(Posted: July 19, 2011)

I received the following recent email from my friend, Joe Garber. He is another of my 96th Bomb Group friends who were so hospitable to me at the 8th Air Force Historical Society Reunion in Cincinnati in 2009. As he mentions, I hope to learn more about his experience in October when we reunite at the 8th AFHS reunion in St. Louis, Missouri. I look forward to adding his story at that time. It means so much to me to hear positive feedback about the book from someone, another hero, who lived the story.

I have finished reading your book a while back and I wanted to drop you a line to and let you know how much I enjoyed it. You had asked me to tell you a little bit about my WWII experience . It was very similar to your dad’s. I was in the 96th Bomb Group in Snetterton England, I flew 13 missions before being shot down on a mission to Regensburg but was shot down over Stuttgart . I was sent to two POW camps. Stalag Luft IV and Stalag Luft 1. Your book brought back many memories some of which I had forgotten. Your dad and I had spent time in the same camps at the same time. Reading your fathers comments was like we were having a conversation together.

I will look forward to seeing you in October, and I will tell you more about my experiences and how close they were to your dad’s.
Your book was very good and your research and pictures were terrific. Your time and effort spent was beyond belief. Congratulations on a job well done.
