The Untold Experiences of a Navy Corpsman

(Posted: May 30, 2011)

I have had the pleasure and honor of becoming acquainted with C. Gilbert Lowery.  “Gil” was a US Navy Hospital Corpsman with a US Marine Corps Reconnaissance Patrol Team and has recently published “The Untold Experiences of a Navy Corpsman”, a book about his five missions into North Korea in the mid 1950’s.  I found his story riveting.  It is a book that I couldn’t put down once I started reading and I recommend it to all as another important lesson in history.  It is an extraordinary example of the lengths that these heroes went to for their comrades.

This is a brief summary of what the book is about taken from a bookmark that Gil graciously sent me

” “Doc” Gil Lowery was a Navy Hospital Corpsman stateside, aboard ship and as medical support with a US Marine Reconnaissance Patrol Team in Korea during the 1950’s.  The Recon Team crossed the DMZ into North Korea in search of POW’s, MIA’s, illegal ammo caches and military facilities.  They utilized aerial photos from U2 Spy Plane flyovers to locate possible objectives.  The five missions by the “Doc” with the Marine Recon Patrol Team were all very successful but, sadly, they suffered casualties on each mission.”

What a great web log. I spend hours on the net reading blogs, about tons of various subjects. I have to first of all give praise to whoever created your theme and second of all to you for writing what i can only describe as an fabulous article. I honestly believe there is a skill to writing articles that only very few posses and honestly you got it. The combining of demonstrative and upper-class content is by all odds super rare with the astronomic amount of blogs on the cyberspace.
