Pilot Lawrence Cook in Podington

(Posted: July 20, 2011)

This is a link to youtube:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs4swX6Icjc&feature=email. I received it from my Father’s pilot, Lawrence Cook’s daughter, Laurel. It’s a great video clip of the Control Tower at the Air Base in Podington, England. This, as you may have learned from this web site, was the home of the 92nd Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force, of which the Cook crew (to include my Father as ball turret gunner) was assigned. The reason that I’m adding this is that at the one minute mark in the video, the handsome fellow who you see turn around on the left is Pilot Cook. Laurel is sure of it and so am I from the photos that I’ve seen of that young 2nd Lieutenant. Laurel thought that the dark-haired fellow that was with him might be my Dad but it isn’t. Later I will add a clip of a liberated POW that I believe to be my Father.

There are some great video clips of the 92nd Bomb Group that are posted on youtube. They are taken from the Doc Furniss War tapes and I believe a Wartime Podington Video. I have previously obtained both of these DVDs that I think contain most of the footage that is posted and they are treasures knowing that my Father lived there for a brief period of time and flew missions from that airfield.
